Calculator Use

A graphing scientificand multi-function computers can be used or are available for certain practices (r) tests. Unless it is specifically declared that a particular calculator is allowed for a specific test Calculators are not allowed to be utilized.

Test takers aren't allowed to share calculators.

Tests That Do Not Permit Use of a Calculator

In generally, unless specifically stated that a particular type of calculator is permitted or is required for a particular test, calculators should not be used on some Practice test.

Tests That Permit the Use of a Calculator

You may use a quadruple or scientific calculator for your Middle School: Content Knowledge (5146) test, though there is no requirement to do so. You will need to bring your personal calculator to the test center. One is not provided at the testing center. A graphing calculator will not be permitted during this test.

Types of CalculatorsThat Are Not Permitted

The following are not permitted during Praxis tests:

  • Portable/handheld computers or laptops
  • Electronic writing pads
  • Models with pen-input/stylus/touch-screen capability
  • Calculators can be found on any phone or watches as well as other electronic devices
  • Models with QWERTY or any other alphabetic keyboards in software or hardware
  • Models that print
  • Models that make noise or "talk"
  • Designs that will require an electrical outlet
  • Models with the ability to connect to internet, as well as have Bluetooth (r) or wireless Bluetooth (r) capability.
  • Models that include a camera with scanning capabilities, digital audio/video player recording/player capability

In addition, the use of hardware peripherals is not allowed.

Tests That Provide an On-screen Calculator

Calculators supplied by test takers aren't permitted for Praxis tests with calculators that are on-screen.

These tests in the Praxis tests include an on-screen graphing calculator. The tests utilize this TI-84 Plus CE calculator. There is a tutorial available so you can practice using the on-screen calculator before your test day.
